If you have any questions you may reach out to our liaison officer who will direct your enquiry. You may access a downloadable version of the latest access policy on this page.
Property & Reminders
Middle Street Synagogue is the property of the Brighton & Hove Hebrew Congregation. No other organisation or individual may authorise visits to the synagogue, which is of major historical importance and is a Grade II* listed building.
Visitors are reminded that there are areas inside the synagogue requiring renovation or repair and that they therefore enter at their own risk.
Application to visit Middle Street Synagogue
Applications to visit should be made in the first instance by email to the Liaison Officer, whose address is shown in the contact section above and on the Brighton & Hove Hebrew Congregation website. The request will be considered by the Liaison Officer and the BHHC Board of Trustees, or a nominated representative. Admission to the building will be arranged by the Liaison Officer or a nominated representative.
To comply with Health & Safety requirements a minimum of two BHHC representatives will be present during visits. We will arrange this beforehand and inform you by email of their names.
Arranging the visit
We generally require a minimum of 3-4 weeks’ notice for any visits to be arranged. Please ensure you state any accessibility requirements when you make your initial visitor’s request. In advance of your visit a complete list of names of all visitors is to be sent to the Liaison Officer. We will contact you 48 hours prior to your visit to confirm the final numbers. We will destroy this visitor list after your visit.
Confidentiality & Photography
Visitors to Middle Street Synagogue agree to be bound by confidentiality and agree not to publish their own photographs on any public forum such as social media channels or in print, if it is agreed in advance that they will be able to take photographs. Please see the accompanying policy on photography. We reserve the right to make amendments to this policy.
