Reading Haftarah

On Shabbat, after the leyning (Torah reading), we read the Haftarah. This is a passage from Prophets. Each Shabbat a specific passage is read, and this corresponds for festivals too.

Reading the Haftarah is a meaningful way to connect with the weekly Torah portion.

It will deepen your understanding of our traditions; whether you are preparing for the regular weekly reading or for a special occasion eg. Yahrzeit, Bar or Bat Mitzvah, or another meaningful event.

Regardless of whether you’re learning for the first time or reviewing for practice, help is always available if you need guidance or support.

We also recommend using one of the excellent online resources that offer recordings of most Haftarot. This is a very useful tool for listening, studying, and improving your reading.

We are an Orthodox congregation and it is our custom for a male member of the congregation to volunteer to do the Haftarah reading.
